So Reality TV, Not So Bad.

Late Tuesday night, I couldn't sleep. So I am watching TV. Reality TV. Tori Spellings new reality TV show. I had never seen the show before, but it was the only thing that I could stomach watching. Well it was an episode where she gives birth to her daughter Stella. She goes into hospital and changes into the hospital gown. But its not a ugly blue box print that the rest of us wear. It is cute. She said her husband bought it for her so she didn't have to look ugly.

So when I was over at Mck Mama's Blog, I noticed she has on one of those UGLY hospital gowns. And it dawns on me that she has been wearing these for the past two weeks that she has been in the hospital. Poor Girl. Not only is she dealing with problems with her unborn baby's heart. But she has to wear UGLY hospital gowns.

So since I can't do anything but pray for her unborn baby. I thought that I can send her a cute hospital gown. So I found the one that Tori was wearing. But it was $90. I can believe that. For a hospital gown. I might be cheap, but I think that's alot. Anyway I already have my mind set on sending her a "cute" hospital gown, I decide to make one.

So I load up Kyle in the car. Drive down to the hobby lobby, and end up choosing four different fabrics. So last night and today I have been making hospital gowns. Here are some pictures of the finished products. They still tie in the back like a real hospital gown, and they even come open at the shoulders but a button and some Velcro. I added a little ribbon around the rib cage/waist line (she is pregnant) to make it not look so much like a MUMU.

So because of reality TV I hope I will be able to brighten her day a little. So its not all that bad. I hope she likes them. And also if you know anyone in hospital, I will be happy to make some more. Just let me know.

This one is like the one Tori wore. And I think my Favorite.

This would be the runner up for my favorite. The colors are so bright and cheerful.

This one is paisley. You can't see it very well in this picture.

I thought that it looked kinda girly. I know thats hard with a hospital gown.

And I just love greens and blues.

Elena, they all look fantastic. Thats a great idea to make these for her and so kind of you to do. She'll be the trendy mum in hospital - everyone will be wanting one.

I'm sure with everything MCK's Mama is going through, your gowns are sure to put a smile on her face.

Great job Elena!! You never cease to amaze me with your sewing skills! Between the hospital gowns and the boppy covers, you've really found a nice niche for sewing! You're so thoughtful too!

You did a FANTASTIC job! They are perfect! Really, you should be selling some. Lots of people end up stuck in the hospital for far too long to be wearing icky gowns. Yours rock!

Elena,
I found your blog thru Mck Momma's, and love your gowns and the thoughtfulness behind them! You aren't by chance planning to make and sell these are you? I, too, saw the Tori episode and searched out the one she wore, as I have a friend who has been diagnosed with endometrial cancer and will have several hospitalizations in the coming weeks. Unfortunately, I couldn't quite swing the Tori price tag, but would love to talk with you if you decide to make and sell these. Her spirits facing this are challenged, so these may help brighten her day! My email is durdenfamily@yahoo.com. Thanks! Linda :)

Elena,
That is so thoughtful of you! I have never seen or heard of these. I would have loved to have had them when I was in the hospital. You are awesome and your reward will be great!!!

When I went back to your blog, I saw that your husband is in the military. Thank you for all the sacrifices you and your son have made so that he can defend our country! Our prayers are with your family!

Coming here from Mckmama - great idea! I would have never thought of creating something so thoughtful. You have done an awesome job! Hospital gowns suck....don't know if you HAVE to wear them in the US but I'm just happy that we can wear anything here over in Oz. (Although I would happily parade around in one of those :)

Beautiful gowns! I found your blog through MCKmama. What a thoughtful gift for someone who is going through so much! Her blog is an inspiration. I too am pregnant and stationed in Germany (where my husband is also a captain in the US Army). Well, we're giving birth at a German hospital this time, and I think I have to bring my own gowns. I would love to buy some from you. Is there a way to email you? I really don't want to leave my private email address on this comment, and I don't have a blog.....maybe try leaving a comment here and I'll check back? Thanks so much!

I too came here from Mck's Mama's blog. I too watched the Tori/Dean birth of Stella, I feel like I know Tori from her 90210 days but I like her a lot more now, funny how that works. Anyway, you are such a huge blessing to make these gowns, you should so sell them! WOW!!!

I was at my sister's house tonight so I was able to see these beauties first-hand! They are wonderful! Thank you so much for doing that for my sister.
I am so appreciative for all the support, encouragement and prayers she has been receiving.
Thanks again for giving her such a thoughtful gift!

I just came over here from MckMamma's blog. I love the gowns you made. And the diaper & wipes cases are cute (I'll have to keep them in mind for baby gifts).

You certainly have some talent!

p.s. I like Tori & Dean. I don't have cable and miss this show.

Super cute!

$90 is really expensive. I'm the same way. I wanted a baby carrier so I found some fabric and made a few. The wrap I use all the time cost me $5, (plus a little for the tie-dye.)

These are great! I wish I would have had one when I was on bedrest! I do have a friend that is on bedrest. She is pregnant with twins and Baby's A water broke about 2 weeks ago. We are hoping and praying that both babies make it. She is 19 weeks and both babies are hanging on strong! I would love to know how much you sell the gowns for! Thanks!

Hi, I know this has been a long time since the original post, but I was wondering if you are still making these, as your link to etsy was empty. My friend's mom is battling breast cancer and is heading into a masectomy and reconstruction, and, being a diva, I'm sure she would be much happier to be there in one of your gowns.
Thanks!

I can still make these. I kinda got bored with it, and esty only leaves you produts up for a few months. I still have some already made, and others that are ready to go. I will go thru my sewing closet today, and repost what I have on my etsy page for you. If not let me know how I can get a hold of you.
